UTSA Football Final Score - 9-10-11

UTSA loses Heartbreaker to McMurry 24-21

Along with the excitement of a new program unfortunately comes the agony of defeat. After winning their first game in history last Saturday, the Roadrunners lost a hard fought battle to McMurry 24-21 losing in the last minute of the game. UTSA (1-1) was down 10-0 at half time and scored 14 points in the 3rd Quarter to take the lead 14-10. After another McMurry touchdown, the Roadrunners scored a touchdown with 3:02 left in the game to take the lead 21-17.

On their final drive with a minute to go in the game, McMurry drove down field and escaped what would be a sack to end the game on fourth down, to extend the game into Road Runner territory. McMurry then scored on a 32 yard touchdown with 19 seconds left on the clock to take the lead 24-21. After returning the squib kick to near mid field, UTSA had an incomplete pass and then tried to score on several laterals, with one of the laterals drawing a penalty for being a forward lateral, thus ending the game.

The Roadrunners first loss in history will be a tough pill to swallow, but the Runners fought hard and their efforts should not be over looked. It is time to put this game behind us and focus on getting our first victory on the road as the Runners take on Southern Utah in their first ever road game.

Eric Soza finished the game 15/28 for 255 yards, 2 scores and 1 interception. He also had 12 carries for 51 yards. David Glasco had 10 carries for 50 yards and a score.

Next Game: 9-17-11 at Southern Utah 7:00 p.m. Central Time.
